Welcome to FountainPen! This guide will help you get the most out of FountainPen's AI-powered legal document review capabilities.
🚀 Getting Started
Opening FountainPen
- Open Microsoft Teams
- Click Apps in the left sidebar
- Search for FountainPen or find it under "Built for your org"
- Click Add to install (first time only)
- FountainPen will appear in your Teams chat list
First Time? You'll see a welcome message confirming your access and showing your organization's usage limits.
📄 Uploading Documents
Supported File Types
FountainPen currently supports:
- Microsoft Word documents (.docx format)
- Documents must be under your plan's page limit (typically 100-250 pages)
How to Upload
- Open FountainPen in Teams
- Click the paperclip icon or drag and drop your document
- Select your .docx file
- Click Send
💡 Tip: You can upload multiple documents, but they will be processed one at a time to ensure quality results.

What Happens After Upload
- Document Validation: FountainPen checks your document format and page count
- AI Analysis: The document is analyzed for legal issues, clarity, and compliance
- Tracked Changes: AI generates professional tracked changes (redlines)
- Commentary: Detailed comments explain each suggested change
- Delivery: You receive the reviewed document with all changes tracked
Processing Time: Most documents are processed in 2-5 minutes, depending on length and complexity.
📊 Understanding Your Results
Tracked Changes (Redlines)
FountainPen uses Microsoft Word's native tracked changes feature to show:
- Insertions: New text suggested by the AI (shown in color with underline)
- Deletions: Text recommended for removal (shown with strikethrough)
- Replacements: Improved wording or corrections
Comments
Each significant change includes a comment explaining:
- Why the change was suggested
- Legal or grammatical reasoning
- Best practice recommendations
- Compliance considerations

Your organization has specific limits based on your subscription plan:

FountainPen automatically shows your current usage when you upload a document:

Note: Usage limits reset on the first day of each month.
