FountainPen Installation Guide
Welcome to FountainPen! This guide will help your IT administrator install the FountainPen Teams app for your organization in just 5-10 minutes.
📋 Prerequisites
- Microsoft Teams Administrator permissions
- Microsoft 365 Admin Center access
- FountainPen Teams app package (Manifest.zip)
🚀 Installation Steps
1Enable Custom Apps
This is a one-time setup if not already enabled:
- Go to Microsoft Teams Admin Center
- Sign in with your admin credentials
- Navigate to Teams apps → Org-wide app settings
- Ensure "Allow interaction with custom apps" is turned ON
- Click Save
2Upload FountainPen App
- In Teams Admin Center, go to Teams apps → Manage apps
- Click "Upload new app" (top right corner)
- Select the
Manifest.zip file provided by FountainPen
- Click Upload
- Wait for the upload to complete (usually takes 10-30 seconds)
Note: The zip file must contain manifest.json, color.png, and outline.png at the root level. Do not unzip or modify the package.
3Allow FountainPen for Your Organization
- In the app list, search for "FountainPen"
- Click on the FountainPen app
- Set the status to "Allowed"
- Click Save
4Make Available to Users (Optional)
Choose how to distribute FountainPen to your users:
Option A: Available to Everyone (Recommended)
FountainPen will automatically appear in all users' Teams app store under "Built for your org". No additional configuration needed.
Option B: Specific Users Only
- Go to Teams apps → Permission policies
- Create a new policy or edit an existing one
- Add FountainPen to the allowed apps list
- Assign the policy to specific users or groups
✅ Verification
Once installed, users can access FountainPen:
- Open Microsoft Teams
- Click Apps in the left sidebar
- Look for FountainPen under "Built for your org"
- Click Add to install for personal use
Success! Users will now see a welcome message and can start uploading documents for AI-powered legal review.
👥 User Experience
Once FountainPen is installed, users can:
- Upload Word Documents (.docx files) directly in Teams
- Get AI-powered legal review with tracked changes and professional commentary
- Receive instant feedback on document quality and compliance
- Download reviewed documents with all recommendations applied
Example User Flow:
- User opens FountainPen in Teams
- Sees welcome message: "👋 Welcome to FountainPen! Upload a Word document (.docx) to get started."
- Uploads a legal document (e.g., contract.docx)
- Receives progress updates: "✅ Processing your document..."
- Gets reviewed document with AI-generated tracked changes and comments
- Downloads the reviewed document for further editing
🔒 Security & Privacy
- ✅ Microsoft 365 Authentication - Users must be signed in with work accounts
- ✅ Tenant Isolation - Your data stays within your organization
- ✅ Secure Processing - Documents are processed securely and not used for AI training
- ✅ Audit Logging - All usage is tracked for compliance
- ✅ Automatic Access Control - Only authorized users can access the service
❓ Troubleshooting
"Custom apps are disabled"
Solution: Enable "Allow interaction with custom apps" in Teams Admin Center (Step 1 above).
"Upload failed"
Solution: Ensure the zip file contains manifest.json, color.png, and outline.png at the root level. Do not modify the package structure.
"FountainPen not responding"
Solution: Verify your organization's domain is authorized. Contact support at 1800 749 294 if the issue persists.
"Users can't see FountainPen"
Solution: Check that the app status is set to "Allowed" and that users have the appropriate permissions policy applied.
